The Marlins will interview former major-league catcher Mike Redmond, who currently serves as a Class A manager in the Blue Jays organization.

One day after firing Ozzie Guillen as manager, the Marlins were granted permission by the Toronto Blue Jays to interview Mike Redmond for the position, according to Jon Heyman. Redmond currently serves as the manager of Class A Dunedin.

Redmond, 41, spent 13 seasons as a catcher for the Marlins, Twins and Indians. He retired after the 2010 campaign. Redmond has never managed above Class A.

Guillen was fired on Tuesday after one season. The Marlins will pay Guillen $7.5 million over the next three years, so it is expected that they will hire a young manager. Mike Lowell's name has also been brought up, but he told CBSSports.com that he wasn't interested at this point.

Redmond hit .287/.342/.358 with 13 home runs and 242 RBI over the course of his career, which was spent mostly as a backup.

The Blue Jays will allow Redmond to speak with the Marlins after losing their major-league manager John Farrell to the Boston Red Sox only three days ago.
