Curt Schilling wanted to be a video-game mogul. He wanted to be the Curt Schilling of video-game moguls. He was the Esteban Yan of video-game moguls, and now he has bills to pay.
So if you want his bloody sock from the 2004 World Series, it can be yours for a low, low price. How low? Well, I'm sure Darren Rovell would know, but he's not going to waste his time on ... wait, no, he has a guess:
Schilling has considered selling the item in the past, first in February 2005. At the time, a Red Sox collector I interviewed said he would bid on it and that he expected the price to soar north of $600,000. Others told me that number was light and that the sock could draw bids above $1 million.
Gross. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to work on my sci-fi screenplay about an obsessed billionaire who buys the sock so he can clone an army of Curt Schillings. The working title is Why in the Shit Did I Think That Was a Good Idea?, but we'll see where it takes me.
