eBay Item of the Day: The Most Famous O's-Rangers Game

Stay connected for news and updates

If only all baseball games were like this one.

Kinsler_medium

Prior to today's play-in extravaganza, the most famous game in the Orioles-Rangers rivalry is the 30-3 bashing Texas laid on Baltimore in Game 1 of a doubleheader on August 22, 2007. To represent that game visually, we have this 2007 Ian Kinsler card. With three singles and a walk, Kinsler actually had one of the lesser games in the lineup that evening, but he's still on the team, so there's your continuity.

Awards from the 30-3 game:

The Doesn't-Look-So-Bad-in-Hindsight Award: Daniel Cabrera.

A starting pitcher who surrenders six runs in five innings can't brag about his performance; that is unless the next three guys allow 24 more runs. Cabrera's in-game ERA of 10.80 is positively Rodneyesque compared to Paul Shuey's 40.50, Rob Bell's 47.26 and Brian Burres' 107.46.

The Best-Supported Starting Pitcher Ever Award: Kason Gabbard

Never has a pitcher who fell behind 3-0 in the early going been picked up by his mates to this extent.

The Most Unsavory Save Award: Wes Littleton

In Littleton's defense, he was brought in to protect an 11-run lead. It grew later.

The Lesser Bragging Rights Award: Brian Roberts

Roberts had a third of his team's hits and scored two-thirds of their runs. Can anyone on the Rangers have said the same? Nope, didn't think so.

The Most-Devastating-Bottom-Third-of-the-Order-Ever? Award: David Murphy, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Ramon Hernandez

They went 14-for-19 with 14 runs scored, 16 driven in, 2 walks and 4 home runs.
