"Must-win".
People say this all the time about various games, but for the San Francisco Giants Tuesday, that is literally true. If the Giants don't win, their season is over.
Manager Bruce Bochy has posted this lineup to face the Reds' Homer Bailey (* indicates left-handed hitter, # indicates switch-hitter):
Angel Pagan, CF *
Marco Scutaro, 2B
Pablo Sandoval, 3B #
Buster Posey, C
Hunter Pence, RF
Brandon Belt, 1B *
Gregor Blanco, LF *
Brandon Crawford, SS *
Ryan Vogelsong, P
This lineup should come as no surprise to you. It's the same starting eight that took the field for each of the first two games in the division series. Will it work this time? Homer Bailey has one start against the Giants this year, April 26 in Cincinnati; he allowed two earned runs in 6⅓ innings, but the Giants won the game off a pre-Aroldis Chapman Reds bullpen. The Giants won't have the luxury of not facing Chapman Tuesday, so they'll have to hope to get to Bailey early if they're to win.
