Angels actively shopping pitcher before Friday deadline

The Los Angeles Angels are actively shopping pitcher Dan Haren, and the 32-year-old righty thinks he will be involved in a transaction sooner or later.

"I have had just a bit of dialogue with the Angels about my situation, but I'm kind of getting the feeling that I'll be traded," Haren wrote in an e-mail to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times. "I have no specifics on teams, but that's the vibe I'm getting. It's a little bit disappointing that I won't get to pick where I want to go, but I'm the one who signed on for the option year."

The Angels are trying to trade Haren before Friday night, when the team has to either exercise his $15.5 million option for next season or decline it and pay a $3.5 million buyout. Several teams might be interested, according to the report, including the Boston Red Sox. It's highly unlikely the organization will exercise his option.

If the Halos trade Haren, they could pay at least $3.5 million of his salary. He went 12-13 with a 4.33 ERA in 2012, suffering from lower-back tightness in the first half that seemed to bother him most of the season.
