Safeco Field is only 13 years old, but that has not stopped the Seattle Mariners from continually updating and upgrading the facilities. As this story in the Seattle Times details, Safeco Field will be adding the largest video board in Major League Baseball this offseason.
The board is 201.5 feet long and 56.7 feet high, making it the largest in professional sports. Yes, it's even bigger than the monstrosity that sits above Cowboys Stadium in Dallas. It will sit just above the center field seats at Safeco Field. Video will be projected in full 1080p, including replays, highlights of past games and fan contests. The number of pixels? More than 4.1 million.
The board's cost will take up a large chunk of the $15 million the franchise has set aside for field and stadium improvements. It is expected to be constructed by March and full operational for the M's home opener on April 8.
