The Los Angeles Angels recently signed seven players to Minor League contracts, according to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com.
Catcher Luke Carlin, infielder Brendan Harris, outfielders J.B. Shuck and Trent Oeltjen, lefty starter Jo-Jo Reyes, right-handed starter Billy Buckner and lefty reliever Mitch Stetter all have previous Major League experience and will be invited to spring training camp. They will try to land a job with the big club, or they will go down to the minors, increasing the Angels depth.
For example, Harris, who has played for five different MLB organizations from 2004 to '10, will compete with Angel Sanchez and Andrew Romine for the utility infield job previously held by Maicer Izturis, who recently signed with Toronto for $10 million and three years.
The Angels are focusing on pitching when it comes to major league deals.
"Right now," general manager Jerry Dipoto said, "our primary focus is on pitching and we are very comfortable with the position-player club that we have."
