The Giants' second-half hero will hit the free-agent market with no draft-pick compensation attached.

The world-champion Giants might have a slightly different look in 2013. The team confirmed it will not extend qualifying offers to outfielder Angel Pagan or second baseman Marco Scutaro. From Andrew Baggarly:

The Giants do not plan to make a qualifying offer to any of their free agents by the 2 p.m. deadline on Friday ...

...Only players who receive a qualifying offer – determined by the league and union to be a one-year salary of $13.3 million – and sign elsewhere would garner their former club a compensatory draft pick at the end of the first round.

The team still has interest in re-signing both Pagan and Scutaro, according to Baggarly.

Pagan completed his third year as a full-time player in 2012, hitting .288/.338/.440 while smacking a league-leading 15 triples. He added eight homers and 38 doubles to his totals, as well as 29 stolen bases. The 31-year-old switch-hitter struggled during the postseason, hitting a collective .188/.230/.348 over 74 plate appearances. Pagan earned $4.85 million in 2012.

Scutaro was San Francisco's hottest hitter down the stretch after the Giants acquired him from the Rockies.

The 37-year-old hit .362/.385/.473 in 268 plate appearances following the trade, helping the Giants keep the Dodgers at bay.

Scutaro garnered NLCS MVP honors by hitting .500 (14-for-28) for the series while compiling a record-high six multi-hit games. His 14 hits for the series tied an LCS record. He earned $6 million in 2012.
