Major League Baseball announced the winners of the 21st annual Players Choice awards Monday night, naming Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera the 2012 Player of the Year. Braves third baseman Chipper Jones received the Marvin Miller Man of the Year, given to the player deemed most inspiring in both his on- and off-the-field performance.
The players also voted on eight league-specific awards, which were given out as follows:
American League
Outstanding Player: Miguel Cabrera - Detroit Tigers
Outstanding Pitcher: David Price - Tampa Bay Rays
Outstanding Rookie: Mike Trout - Los Angeles Angels
Comeback Player: Adam Dunn - Chicago White Sox
National League
Outstanding Player: Andrew McCutchen - Pittsburgh Pirates
Outstanding Pitcher: R.A. Dickey - New York Mets
Outstanding Rookie: Todd Frazier - Cincinnati Reds
Comeback Player: Buster Posey - San Francisco Giants
Ballots were cast by in mid-September, with players voting for three finalists in each category. All of the award winners will designate charities to receive grants totaling $260,000 from the MLB Player's Trust.
