Brandon McCarthy to Diamondbacks for 2 years

The Arizona Diamondbacks officialized a two-year deal with righty Brandon McCarthy Tuesday, the club announced via press release.

McCarthy went 8-6 with a 3.24 ERA (40 ER in 110 IP) in 18 starts with Oakland in 2012. He was struck in the right side of his head September 5 in a game against the Los Angeles Angels, resulting with an epidural hemorrhage, brain contusion, and skull fracture.

The 29-year-old pitcher became a free agent after the 2012 season ended. The new deal with Arizona is worth $15.5 million, according to reports.

McCarthy is now taking his skills to the National League, after ranking among the Junior CIrcuit's leaders in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.0, 4th place), walks per 9 innings (1.41, 5th), and ERA (3.29, 11th). He is now joining a rotation with names like Ian Kennedy, Trevor Cahill and Wade Miley. This now means prospects like Tyler Skaggs, Trevor Bauer and Patrick Corbin are not expected to join the rotation, at least for the first half of the upcoming season.
