Mike Pelfrey drawing interest from a number of teams

The New York Mets non-tendered Mike Pelfrey, and now he is drawing interest on the free agent market.

Free agent hurler Mike Pelfrey is drawing interest from no fewer than seven teams, according to Jon Heyman:

Pelfrey was non-tendered by the New York Mets on Friday, making him eligible to sign with anyone willing to make him an offer. As Heyman notes, Pelfrey is recovering from Tommy John surgery. He suffered a torn UCL after making just three starts in 2012 and had surgery to repair it, causing him to miss most of the season. Pelfrey made $5.675 million with the Mets last year, and they apparently were too reluctant to tender him a contract, and ostensibly, a raise.

Pelfrey has a career ERA of 4.36 in just under 900 innings over seven different seasons. He does not strike out many hitters and perhaps walks too many, but he usually induces a fair number of ground balls. Much like his former NL East rival John Lannan, who was non-tendered by the Washington Nationals, he could draw interest from teams looking for starting pitchers for the back-end of their rotations.
