In his career Jeff Bagwell saw over 2,000 games in the field, all at first base except once. This Houston Chronicle article from 1994 notes why then-Astros manager Terry Collins used Jeff Bagwell in right field to give playing time for Sid Bream, of all people. Bagwell noted his last experience in the outfield was high school.
How did he do? Not bad; one putout and an outfield assist at home. The box score says it went 9-3-4-5, which is a funny way to tag someone out at home. Must've been a wacky string of rundowns, as if there are any other kinds. Perhaps had he played in right field more, additional base-running buffoonery would've graced Houston.
