The Atlanta Braves have pitching depth like no other team, with the possible exception of the Rays. Even with Tim Hudson scheduled to miss the first month of the season, the Braves are still excluding pitchers from their rotation that other teams would be thrilled to have. This brings up an honest question: Why don't the Braves trade some of that depth for something they really need, like a shortstop?

Here's why. Pitchers tend to break without a lot of warning. From Buster Olney:

Vizcaino is the #2 prospect in the Braves' system according to Baseball America, and one of the arms that the Braves refused to give up for Michael Bourn last summer. He played at four levels last year, including a 17-game stint at the major-league level, where he struck out 17 batters in 17 innings.

The Braves will still have Julio Teheran and Randall Delgado in reserve once Hudson returns, but Vizcaino will be out for at least a year.
