Happy 50th birthday to the New York Mets. On this day in 1962 the team sprung forth with an 11-4 road loss to the Cardinals. Their first scoreless outing ever was recorded that day by Herb Moford, a 33-year old journeyman who's John Hancock appears on this ball. Unfortunately for Moford, he gave up runs in each of his next five outings and was demoted - forever, as it turned out.
