Lorenzo Cain, the starting center fielder for the Kansas City Royals, was placed on the disabled list with a left groin strain.
In the short period between Victor Martinez's injury and Prince Fielder's signing, the Kansas City Royals were something of a sweetheart under-the-radar pick for the AL Central. A lot of this had to do with time that elapsed between watching the Royals pitch and thinking about how the Royals will pitch, but the collection of young hitters the Royals acquired was the biggest reason.
Lorenzo Cain was one of those hitters, and the 26-year-old finally won a starting job in the majors as the Royals' everyday center fielder. But because the Royals can't have nice things, he hit 2-for-15 before going on the disabled list:

Dyson appeared in 26 games for the Royals last year, and the 27-year-old is a career .280/.348/.350 hitter in the minors. Mitch Maier and Jason Bourgeois will likely get most of the playing time in center.
