Sunday afternoon, the Padres and Dodgers were tied at four in the top of the ninth, because the Padres had somehow managed to score four runs. Then, kicking off the top of the ninth, Yonder Alonso and Chase Headley both reached. That brought Jesus Guzman to the plate, and if you're the Padres, these aren't situations you can afford to throw away. Guzman squared to bunt, and in so doing he threw it all away in spectacular fashion.
The idea behind a sacrifice bunt is that you sacrifice yourself for the betterment of your team, like falling on a grenade, only less dramatic and suicide-y. Guzman fell on a grenade and forgot he was wearing a belt holding a bunch of other grenades.
