Brett Gardner has an elbow injury, and while it seemed like a day-to-day thing, the Yankees have placed him on the disabled list.

Tuesday, Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner made a diving catch. Brett Gardner makes a lot of diving catches, because Brett Gardner is an outstanding defensive outfielder. However, in the process of making that diving catch, Gardner hurt his elbow. He was in the Yankees' starting lineup Wednesday, but he felt some discomfort during batting practice, so now he's getting a couple weeks of rest:

The Yankees are calling it a strained right elbow. It doesn't seem like too bad of an injury, but I guess I'm not expert, and even if I were, I don't have access to Gardner's medical records. Outfielders Andruw Jones, Curtis Granderson, Raul Ibanez, and Nick Swisher remain on the active roster, if you consider Raul Ibanez an outfielder. The Yankees should be fine, even if they miss Gardner's presence.

Gardner had batted 9-for-28 with two doubles and five walks. More importantly, the defense. The Yankees will miss his defense.
