Skip Schumaker was on the disabled list with an oblique injury. He was rehabbing in the minors, but he was supposed to rehab through the weekend, and his return to the majors was accelerated due to injuries to Jon Jay and Lance Berkman. Friday night, the Cardinals started Schumaker in center field against the Pirates. And Friday night, Schumaker had to be removed after colliding with the wall:
That fly ball, hit by Alex Presley, turned into an inside-the-park home run. Which was just the Pirates' seventh home run of the season. You can't see the rest of the play above because the .gif got too big, and the interesting part is Schumaker anyway. The rest is a guy running really fast. You've seen a guy running really fast before.
The good news for the Cardinals is that Schumaker didn't re-injure himself, nor did he end up with a new injury. He simply had the wind knocked out of him, and should be available again Saturday. With Jon Jay already feeling better, the Cardinals' outfield situation isn't quite that dire. Schumaker was replaced with Erik Komatsu, who is a major-league baseball player.
