If you were thinking a day had gone by without any Red Sox turmoil, think again.

As if the Red Sox and manager Bobby Valentine didn't have enough trouble, Bill Madden wrote this in the New York Daily News, regarding Valentine:

And this doesn’t include the near player revolt he had on his hands the very first week of spring training when, the Daily News has learned, he got all over shortstop Mike Aviles in what sources described as "a very ugly scene" during infield drills. After a group of Red Sox players confronted him with outrage, Valentine had to apologize to Aviles.

Well. Of course, someone talked to Aviles, and of course, Aviles denied it happened. Rob Bradford of WEEI:

"I don't know where that came from," said Aviles. "I don't remember any incident like that. ... There was nothing that comes to mind that would be anything like that other than just normal player/coach interaction."

The report suggested that Valentine had to apologize to Aviles after the incident. But, asked if there was an instance in which the manager had done anything that would have warranted an apology or if Valentine had taken it upon himself to apologize for an incident, Aviles said, "No."

Madden, quoted in the WEEI report, stood by his story.

No matter whether it's true or not, just the fact that reports like this are around increases the image of the Red Sox as Team Turmoil. The Red Sox are probably happy to be playing far away from Boston beginning Monday; they'll open a three-game series against the Twins in Minneapolis tonight.
