Jon Jay Gets Good News Following Shoulder MRI

Stay connected for news and updates

Your background: last week, two Cardinals outfielders hurt themselves crashing into the center-field wall. Skip Schumaker had to be removed from a game after knocking the wind out of himself. Jon Jay, meanwhile, hurt his right shoulder. It was diagnosed as a sprain, and Jay was initially day-to-day.

The disabled list wasn't thought of as a real possibility. Jay returned to pinch-run on Saturday. Sunday, he felt discomfort in his shoulder during batting practice, and suddenly the disabled list was more of a possibility. Jay was sent for tests, but thankfully for Jay and the Cardinals, the tests felt like spreading some good cheer:

So Jay's not far off. In the short-term, the Cardinals would probably prefer to not be playing Schumaker and Shane Robinson, but better to have to fill in for Jay for a bit than to have to fill in for Jay for more than a bit. The 27-year-old owns a .349 average, and a .926 OPS. I'm referring to the 27-year-old Jay, not the 27-year-old Robinson. The 27-year-old Robinson's numbers are ... actually even better? Man, the Cardinals are a damn factory.
