Mike Pelfrey got off to a good start this season with the Mets. He had no decisions in his first three starts, but he threw 19⅔ innings -- averaging more than six per start -- and posted a 2.29 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, while not allowing a home run. The Mets won two of the three games, and just last Saturday he threw eight strong innings against the Giants.
So this is something of a surprise:
Mike Pelfrey MRI. Right elbow swelling. Will miss next start. Headed to DL. Robert Carson en route.— Adam Rubin (@AdamRubinESPN) April 24, 2012
This is the second DL move the Mets have made today; earlier, Jason Bay was disabled with cracked ribs after a diving missed catch Monday night. There's more about Pelfrey, and it isn't good news:
Sandy Alderson said a ligament tear has not been ruled out.— Adam Rubin (@AdamRubinESPN) April 24, 2012
So it goes.
