The Tampa Bay Rays closer has some elbow problems, and might start the year on the disabled list.
Kyle Farnsworth had a pretty good year as the Rays closer in 2011, posting 25 saves with a 2.18 ERA and 0.988 WHIP. However, he had pitched sparingly over the last couple of weeks of spring training this year, making just one appearance since March 21.
Farnsworth has had some elbow soreness that's caused him to miss this time. It's not official yet, but Marc Topkin does not have good news:
Nothing official from #Rays, but other players said they heard Farnsworth will be on DL to start season

The Rays do have some choices to fill in for Farnsworth; Joel Peralta, who was a setup man for Farnsworth last year, is the logical first choice. Fernando Rodney has closing experience, and Joe Maddon could also call on J.P. Howell or Jake McGee.
