The 2012 Major League Baseball regular season opens resumes Wednesday night, as the Miami Marlins face the St. Louis Cardinals in the Marlins' brand-new ballpark.

Wednesday night, the shiny new Marlins Park does not open for the first time. Marlins Park has already hosted some exhibition baseball games.

Wednesday night, the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season does not begin. The regular season began a week ago, in Tokyo, Japan, as the Seattle Mariners played the Oakland Athletics.

But Wednesday night, Marlins Park will take center stage, as the season resumes with a game between the Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals. It's the only meaningful game of the day, and it'll be broadcast on ESPN. You won't want to miss this. Here's an example of why you won't want to miss this:

It's all going to be very Marlins. Everybody knows about the thing in center field. Wednesday night, we could see that thing activated. We could see who'll be responsible for activating it. Basically, there's going to be history made.

After everyone sits down:

Josh Johnson is starting for the home side. Kyle Lohse is starting for the defending world champions. There'll be Giancarlo Stanton and Logan Morrison and Matt Holliday and David Freese and Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez and other guys. Sit back and watch baseball start, again!
