Ozzie Guillen Says Heath Bell Could Be Marlins Closer Again

It’s been just six days since Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen demoted Heath Bell from the closer role.

This was an excellent idea, given that Bell had more blown saves at the time (four) than saves (three).

He’s also got a 10.24 ERA, a 2.69 WHIP, and has only one less walk than his teammate Anibal Sanchez despite throwing almost 31 fewer innings.

Thus, this news might come as somewhat of a surprise:

Bell has made one appearance since his demotion; he threw a scoreless 10th inning on May 9 in Houston in a game the Marlins won over the Astros in 12 innings.

It seems a bit early for such a move to be made; the Chicago Cubs had a similar blowup from their closer, Carlos Marmol, and Marmol has yet to be given his job back after eight days of exile.

But then, that might be just Ozzie being Ozzie.
