Reds' third baseman Scott Rolen is headed to the 15-day disabled list with a strained left shoulder.

The Cincinnati Reds placed starting third baseman Scott Rolen on the 15-day disabled list Saturday due to a strained left shoulder. To replace Rolen on the major league roster, the Reds called up infielder Mike Costanzo from AAA Louisville.

Rolen's left shoulder caused him problems before, including last season when he played in just 65 games due to injury and was forced to have shoulder surgery. Rolen has played in 29 games this season and is batting .174 with two home runs and 11 RBI.

Costanzo played in 23 games at AAA Louisville, hitting .291 with three home runs. Costanzo also played 11 games with Pensacola, the Reds' AA affiliate.
