Yet another pitcher is headed for medical exams after suffering arm soreness, as the Royals' Danny Duffy needs an MRI.
The Royals' Danny Duffy, one of team's top young pitchers, was off to a good start this season, posting a 3.90 ERA and allowing just two home runs in six starts.
Sunday, pitching in Chicago against the White Sox, Duffy faced just three hitters before having an "uh-oh" moment regarding his pitching elbow:
Duffy faced three batters in the first inning and recorded two outs before catcher Humberto Quintero saw him shake out his arm at the end of a throw, prompting a mound visit from manager Ned Yost and a trainer.
"As soon as he said 'It's in my elbow,' I said 'That's it,'" Yost said. "We need to get that checked, see what's going on there, and go from there."
Duffy was sent back to Kansas City and will have an MRI on his left elbow Monday. Elbow tightness is never good for a pitcher, and, according to the linked article, this isn't the first time this year Duffy has felt that.
