Matt Kemp set a blistering pace to start the season and helped the Los Angeles Dodgers secure the best record in the National League. Unfortunately, he has been slowed by a hamstring issue and will now be placed on the 15-day disabled list.
According to Kevin Gurnick of MLB.com, Kemp was placed on the disabled list following Monday's win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Kemp did not play in the game, ending his MLB-best streak of consecutive games played at 399. MLB's new active leader for consecutive games played is Prince Fielder with 216.
Kemp has been battling issues with his hamstring since last Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs. He had an MRI on his leg on Monday and the team made the call to give him a break. Kemp joins teammate Juan Uribe on the disabled list.
In 34 games, Kemp has hit .359 with 12 home runs, 28 RBI and 29 runs scored, emerging as an early favorite for NL MVP. He placed second for the award in 2011.
