Will Rhymes 'Fine' After Being Hit By Pitch And Fainting

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Will Rhymes passed out Wednesday night minutes after being hit in the forearm by a pitch. Rhymes is all right, though, and has only a wicked bruise.

Will Rhymes Injury Not Severe; X-Rays Negative

Wednesday night, Rays second baseman Will Rhymes was hit square in the forearm by a pitch from Franklin Morales. That wasn't a real big deal - batters get hit by pitches all the time. Rhymes was examined, he stayed in the game, and he went to first base.

That's when it got scary. Because that's when Rhymes removed himself and fainted in the arms of the Rays' first-base coach. Rhymes was down for several minutes before he came to, and he was carted off the field and taken for exams. It looked at that point like Rhymes had suffered some kind of break.

Nope. No break. Rhymes is fine, turns out. Bruised, but fine. That was all resolved quickly.

Rhymes got hit by a pitch, removed himself from a baseball game, and fainted. Rhymes could be back and playing in another game in a matter of days. It's a tremendous relief, and now the Rays can feel even better about their Wednesday win over the Red Sox.
