Jimmy Rollins and his wife are about to welcome a new baby, so the Phillies shortstop is on the Paternity Leave List.
Major League Baseball has, in recent years, acknowledged the need for players to take care of family matters during the season while allowing their teams to temporarily replace them.
One of those ways is the paternity leave list, created in 2011 for players whose wives were about to give birth.
Congratulations are thus in order for Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins:
SS Jimmy Rollins was placed on the Paternity Leave List today. C Erik Kratz has been recalled from Lehigh Valley (AAA).
Players can stay on the list for up to three days, so this move will be a brief one. It's unclear who will play shortstop in Rollins' absence; the only other Phillie who's had any time at shortstop this season is Freddy Galvis, their regular second baseman. He could slide over and Mike Fontenot or Hector Luna could play second base.
