Los Angeles Angels ace Jered Weaver threw just 12 pitches before leaving Monday's start against the New York Yankees with a lower back injury. The team confirmed the injury via Twitter, although the severity is not yet known.

Weaver saw four batters during his brief time on the mound, failing to record a single out. Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson opened the game with consecutive singles, and Alex Rodriguez reached safely on an error by Erick Aybar, which allowed Jeter to score. Weaver threw one more pitch, a ball to Robinson Cano, before leaving the game. He was relieved by Bobby Cassevah, who struck out Cano.

Weaver was ultimately charged with zero earned runs, although three scored.

The game was tied 4-4 at the top of the third, with Cassevah still on the mound.
