The Indians have lost their DH for at least 15 days with some knee issues.

Indians DH Travis Hafner has had knee issues this season; he made a knee problem worse while running on May 23 against the Tigers.

Now, the Tribe has been forced to place Hafner on the DL. Paul Hoynes:

The Indians have placed DH Travis Hafrner on the 15-day disabled list and recalled left-hander Scott Barnes from Class AAA Columbus.

Hafner missed five games with soreness in his right knee after aggraving it on May 23 against Detroit. He hit and tried to run before Tuesday night's game against Kansas City. Manager Manny Acta said Hafner swung the bat well, but had trouble running.

Hafner missed almost half of 2011 with various injuries, and was off to a decent start this year, hitting .242/.380/.439 with six home runs and 23 RBI in 132 at-bats. The recall of Barnes gives the Indians a full complement again in their bullpen; they had been going with a six-man pen for a time. Hafner's DL move is retroactive to May 24.

The Indians stand just half a game behind the White Sox in the AL Central, but have lost four of their last five and have a -21 run differential despite being five games over .500. That probably isn't sustainable, and losing Hafner won't help.
