Travis Hafner Has Torn Meniscus; Will Have Surgery, Out 4-6 Weeks

Stay connected for news and updates

The Cleveland Indians have been without DH Travis Hafner since May 23; earlier Wednesday they placed him on the disabled list, retroactive to May 24, with a knee injury.

Now, there’s worse news:

The Indians do have other options at designated hitter; one of them is Johnny Damon, who will, in fact, DH for the Tribe in their afternoon game Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals. Damon, who was the Rays’ regular DH most of 2011, might be Cleveland’s best hope for keeping some offensive production out of that spot, although he has hit poorly — just .152/.239/.228 in 79 at-bats — since joining the Indians on May 2.

So it goes. Seems as if there have been many more injuries than usual this year, doesn’t it?
