A win is a win, but if the injury to Brandon Morrow Wednesday night during a 4-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles is severe, the Toronto Blue Jays just suffered a critical loss.
With one man out in the seventh inning, the Blue Jays ace was nailed in the right leg by a Wilson Betemit liner.
Members of the Blue Jays training staff rushed out to assist a hobbling Morrow, who had to be assisted off the field and could not place any weight on the injured leg.
X-rays were immediately taken on Morrow, showing a right shin contusion. Further evaluation and information on the injury is expected to be released on Thursday.
With the the Orioles reeling and the Red Sox and Yankees not displaying their usual dominance this season, the AL East remains a wide-open race entering the third month of the season, with all teams currently sitting above the .500 mark.
The Blue Jays are in fourth place but just one game back of the now-reeling Orioles. But Morrow is their ace, and one of the better pitchers in the American League. Anything from a DL stint to a rehab assignment would be a tough blow to the club.
