Tigers Reinstate Delmon Young, Designate Brad Eldred For Assignment

Delmon Young’s seven-day suspension by MLB for his actions last Friday in New York ends Friday, and so the team is reinstating him to the active roster. Chris Iott:

The Detroit Tigers planned to reinstate Delmon Young from the restricted list today, the first day he was eligible to return from a seven-day suspension handed down by Major League Baseball. The only question centered around how the Tigers would make room for him.

The Tigers answered that question today when they designated the contract of Brad Eldred for assignment.

In removing Eldred from the roster, the Tigers retain Danny Worth, who had been recalled when Young was suspended. Worth has gone just 1-for-8, but Eldred was just 3-for-16 since joining the team.

The Tigers have to hope Young sticks to baseball and hits better than the .242 mark he had posted before last Friday’s unfortunate incident in New York City. Young will not, according to Iott’s article, be in the starting lineup for Friday’s game vs. the White Sox, but will be available off the bench.
