Ruben Tejada Lands On Disabled List

Stay connected for news and updates

Faceplants are always funny, unless the faceplanter in question gets hurt. New York Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada faceplanted when he was running out a bunt during Sunday's game. He stayed on the ground, he was sent for an MRI of his right quad, and now we all know for sure what's going on:

It wasn't guaranteed that Tejada would need to go on the DL, but now here we are, and the Mets have neither Tejada nor Ronny Cedeno at the ready. The team hopes that Cedeno will be back from his own DL stint at the end of the week, but in the meantime, it'll be Valdespin and Justin Turner at short. Evaluating Valdespin by his name is a little more exciting than evaluating him by his talent.

Tejada leaves a .305 batting average and a 115 OPS+ over 117 plate appearances. Once he recovers, he'll return and presumably make those numbers worse.
