Nats' Jayson Werth DL'd, But Ryan Zimmerman Returns

The Nationals have lost Jayson Werth to the DL, perhaps for up to 12 weeks; just in the nick of time, Ryan Zimmerman will return to action Tuesday.

The Washington Nationals' offense suffered a blow when outfielder Jayson Werth was injured during Sunday's 9-3 Nats loss to the Phillies.

Werth, who had a miserable year in 2011 in the first season of a big free-agent deal (hmmm... that sounds awfully familiar these days), was off to a good start this year, hitting .276/.372/.439 with three home runs in 98 at-bats.

Fortunately for the Nats, they have some help on the way:

Zimmerman, who has been battling shoulder woes, has been taking batting practice and said "it felt good", which is often baseball code for "I'm not sure but even if I am, I'm not going to blab it to all you reporters."

In any case, Zimmerman will be active for tonight's Nats game at Pittsburgh, and this also means that Bryce Harper, who was originally called up when Zimmerman went on the DL, will stick around for a while in the major leagues.
