The San Diego Padres have the worst record in the National League, and their pitchers have been dropping like flies. Not like the batted balls; like the buzzy insects. Here's just the latest example:

Joe Wieland is going on the DL, Buddy says. Tough loss for #Padres. Crazy injuries to their pitching staff.

Yes, it's been a rough spring. Tim Stauffer was supposed to be in the rotation, but hasn't pitched yet. Cory Luebke posted a 2.61 ERA in five starts before going on the Disabled List. Veteran Dustin Moseley made one start for the Padres before undergoing season-ending rotator-cuff surgery. Relievers Huston Street and Micah Owings are on the DL.

And now Wieland, the Padres' 22-year-old rookie. In five starts, Wieland's gone 0-4 with a 4.55 ERA, but showed enough to keep his job until now. The only good news is that Wieland's MRI showed no structural damage to his elbow, and he isn't expected to spend long on the DL.
