Freddy Galvis Has Fracture In Back

Freddy Galvis has batted 200 times this season for the Phillies, and he's posted a .254 OBP. Scoot over a couple columns on Baseball-Reference and you see a 65 OPS+. Freddy Galvis hasn't hit. But Freddy Galvis was never supposed to hit, and it's not like the Phillies were hoping he would get injured, which he did.

Not long ago, Galvis went down with what was being termed a lower back strain. Out of that rose concern that he had a fracture. Galvis has been appropriately examined, and he does indeed have a fracture.

It's always spooky when you see the words "no timetable", and there's no certainty that Galvis will play again in 2012. His season isn't necessarily over, but the Phillies can't predict how this injury will heal.

Since Galvis was injured, Mike Fontenot and Michael Martinez have played second base. Chase Utley is on the way back, but he's not exactly beating down the door.
