Cincinnati Reds third baseman Scott Rolen has been on the disabled list for more than a month with a strained left shoulder.

Soon, though, he’ll be back in the Reds’ lineup:

Rolen will go on rehab at Louisville Friday, Saturday. Will join club Monday in Cleveland. #reds

That’s a pretty quick rehab assignment — just two games — but Rolen and the team must be confident that he can return to action.

After having a soiid year in his first full season in Cincinnati in 2010, helping the Reds to the NL Central title, Rolen has struggled with injuries and subpar performance the last two seasons. Before the shoulder injury, he was hitting just .174/.238/.304 in 92 at-bats. The Reds, who were 16-16 when Rolen went on the DL, have gone 18-11 without him.

We’re probably seeing the end of Scott Rolen’s fine career; hopefully for him and for the Reds, he can go out on a high note.
