Jerome Williams Starting For Angels Saturday

Los Angeles Angels righthander Jerome Williams was placed on the 15-day disabled list in June after passing out in the clubhouse following a short (3⅓ innings) start against the San Francisco Giants.

He was officially diagnosed with anxiety, as well as having an asthma attack.

Williams will be returning to the Angels’ rotation Saturday as they face the New York Yankees in the Bronx, according to the Los Angeles Times:

Right-hander Jerome Williams (6-5, 4.46) will return from the disabled list to start Saturday, and All-Star and American League ERA leader [Jered] Weaver will start Sunday, [manager Mike] Scioscia said.

The Angels need Williams to be a solid rotation contributor to remain in postseason contention. C.J. Wilson will start for the Angels Friday, according to the Times, and after Williams and Weaver, Ervin Santana will begin the Angels’ series against the Tigers in Detroit Monday.

Jerome Williams Hits DL After Breathing Issues

Los Angeles Angels' right-hander Jerome Williams pitched against the San Francisco Giants on Monday, and he didn't fare too well, allowing three runs in 3⅓ innings. After he was removed, he passed out in the clubhouse and was taken to the hospital with breathing problems. He was released, but the Angels aren't taking any chances:

The official diagnosis as of now is asthma and anxiety. Williams was drafted and developed by the Giants, and he told Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle that his history with the Giants likely contributed to the episode.

Asked why he was so anxious facing a team he left seven years ago, Williams said, "I have no clue," but then added, "I felt I was amped the last time I faced them when I was with the Cubs (in 2005). I always want to try to do well against them. I came up with them. They’re the Giants."

Jered Weaver is taking Williams' spot on the active roster and starting on Wednesday.

Jerome Williams Tweets That He's Better After Hospital Stay

Angels righthander Jerome Williams started Monday night against the San Francisco Giants in Anaheim. He got knocked out of the game in the fourth inning, and then things got worse; an inning later he passed out; outfielder Torii Hunter said all his teammates were concerned:

“I found out in the fifth inning when the trainers came down and told us that Jerome was on his way to the hospital,” Hunter said. “It was a tough thing to hear. We didn’t know what was going on. We knew he passed out in the locker room and had trouble breathing. At that point, all you could do was say a little prayer. Hopefully he’s doing all right. I hope all it was is that he was a little amped up for the game.”

That’s good news; hopefully, Hunter is right, and Williams will be back on the mound soon.

Angels' Jerome Williams Sent To Hospital
