Rockies Name Jim Wright, Bo McLaughlin Co-Pitching Coaches

Stay connected for news and updates

As Bob Apodaca requested and was granted a reassignment, the Colorado Rockies were left searching for a new pitching coach. It didn't take them long before they settled on two pitching coaches.

This might read weirder than it actually is. I'm not sure, maybe it's going to be super weird, but it's not like the Rockies are going to have two pitching coaches alternating words with one another as they give instruction to the players. Jim Wright, who has been the bullpen coach, will keep on working with the bullpen, and Bo McLaughlin will take over the rotation. Every team has a pitching coach and a bullpen coach -- the Rockies are seemingly just working with different job titles, and slightly different roles.

That the Rockies are limiting one guy to just coaching the rotation implies that their four-man rotation experiment might not go away anytime soon. It'll be a while before pitchers adjust to that, so it makes sense to limit the student-to-teacher ratio.
