Bronson Arroyo No-Hit Bid Snapped In Eighth

Cincinnati Reds starter Bronson Arroyo threw 7⅓ no-hit innings against the Milwaukee Brewers at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday, but lost the no-hitter on a Taylor Green double. Arroyo then lost the shutout about three seconds later on a Corey Hart double that missed going out by about three feet.

Arroyo started the eight inning by striking out Travis Ishikawa on a front-door two-seamer. If you had to picture how Bronson Arroyo could possibly throw a no-hitter, it was with pitches like that. After allowing only one runner all game to that point -- a Ryan Braun hit-by-pitch -- Arroyo then allowed three straight batters to reach. George Kottaras walked, and Taylor Green doubled just down the line to break up the no-hitter.

Phew. Well, at least the Reds were still leading, 3-0! For a few minutes! But Hart's double drove in both Kottaras and Green, and Norichika Aoki hit a two-out single to drive in Hart and tie the game.

It was exciting for a while, and then everything got all Bronson Arroyo.
