The Blue Jays third baseman was at the scene of a shooting at one of the largest malls in Canada.
On Saturday, there was a shooting at Toronto's biggest downtown mall, the Eaton Centre, that left one person dead and seven wounded.
One of the first witnesses on the scene was Blue Jays third baseman and native Canadian Brett Lawrie, who is credited with breaking the news on Twitter. He was in the area not long after Saturday's Blue Jays/Red Sox game ended at the Rogers Centre, which is only about a mile away. Here's his sequence of tweets:

Lawrie is fortunate, according to the Associated Press:
On Sunday, Lawrie said he felt he was lucky to get out. He says he left the food court area just 10 seconds before the shooting.
