Jason Bay Set To Return To Mets Lineup

On April 23, Jason Bay took a dive in the outfield at Citi Field. This is entirely permissible and even encouraged, in order to field flying baseballs.

Unfortunately, Bay landed wrong and suffered a non-displaced rib fracture. He has been on the disabled list ever since, missing 37 games. The Mets have gone 22-15 since then and are tied for first place in the NL East. These two things are not thought to be related.

Now, Bay is ready to come back and play:

Mets reliever Ramon Ramirez hurt a hamstring diving into the celebration pile after Johan Santana’s no-hitter on Friday; he’s supposed to be examined Monday, and could wind up as the corresponding roster move for Bay’s activation.

The Mets sure have some weird injuries. But as long as they continue playing well, they probably don’t care much.
