The Red Sox second baseman is ready to return from a thumb injury.

The Red Sox' Dustin Pedroia has been out of the lineup for a week since aggravating a thumb injury he first suffered earlier in May.

He's been taking batting practice and is ready to return, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI:

According to a team source, the plan is for Dustin Pedroia to return to the Red Sox' lineup Tuesday in the team's series-opener against the Orioles at Fenway Park.

Pedroia took batting practice with a specially-designed brace both Saturday and Sunday in Toronto with no ill effects. He told reporters after the BP sessions that his hope was to play Tuesday, with the last hurdle coming Monday when he would receive another examination.

The Red Sox have been hanging in there without their All-Star second baseman; they've won four of the six games Pedroia has sat out since May 28, and they stand just three games out of first place in the tightly packed AL East.
