Huston Street Returns From Disabled List

On May 5, Padres closer Huston Street landed on the disabled list with a lat strain. On June 5, Padres closer Huston Street is coming off of the disabled list. If you read over that too quickly you might think that Huston Street missed no time at all!

Street missed a month, but when your initial fear is that you might have injured your shoulder, you'll take a month's absence. He'll slide right back into his closing role, and it's here that I should note that the Padres have the worst record in all of baseball. Street did manage four saves before going down, and he'd allowed one run over ten appearances.

While Street was sidelined, Dale Thayer emerged. Thayer has allowed seven runs over 13 appearances, but he's also registered 13 strikeouts and one walk, and five saves. He won't close anymore, but as the Padres are bad and Street is in the last year of his contract, he could close again before long if Street gets moved. Of course, the Padres are also fans of Andrew Cashner, so what I'm telling you is that I don't know who's the odds-on favorite to be the Padres' closer at the end of this season. There are literally countless more important questions than this one.
