Scott Boras Defends Stephen Drew

Stay connected for news and updates

The Arizona Diamondbacks have underachieved, and Ken Kendrick is one of the team's executives. Kendrick, thus, is frustrated with the team's place in the standings, and he sounded off on a number of topics. Among them was shortstop Stephen Drew, who Kendrick believes ought to be back playing by now after suffering a catastrophic injury in 2011.

Enter Scott Boras, who came to Drew's defense. Guess which agent represents Stephen Drew?

Drew's injury was severe. Kendrick is apparently not the only person who's wondered about Drew's commitment to recovery, but he's making his way back, and nobody knows more about Stephen Drew's situation than Stephen Drew. Kendrick accused Drew of thinking more about his next home in 2013 than his home in 2012, but if anything you'd think Drew would want to hurry back in 2012 and re-establish his value if he were that focused on finding a new employer for next season.

Without knowing any of the particulars, it's impossible to say who's more in the right. We don't know if Drew's put enough into his rehab effort. But even if he hasn't, the solution probably isn't to rip him in the press. Call me old-fashioned. My inclination is to side with the player and ignore the frustrated executive, but I guess I can't know for certain.
