Alexi Ogando Returning To Rangers In Bullpen

When Alexi Ogando last appeared for the Texas Rangers, he was in the starting rotation. He wound up on the disabled list with a strained groin, not from any pitching motion, but running the bases trying to beat out a bunt single.

He’s been out a month, but he’s ready to return to the active roster Tuesday, according to texasrangers.com:

The Rangers will activate reliever Alexi Ogando off the disabled list Tuesday, manager Ron Washington said. Koji Uehara could also be activated as well.

“We haven’t totally committed to that but there is a possibility they both will be here Tuesday,” Washington said.

Ogando, who has been on the disabled list since June 12 with a strained right groin muscle, has thrown three scoreless innings over two rehab assignment outings at Triple-A Round Rock. Uehara threw one scoreless inning on Saturday night as well without any problem.

Both Ogando and Uehara will, according to the article, become setup relievers on their return. No corresponding roster moves have yet been announced.
