You might recall that in May, Josh Hamilton looked an awful lot like the greatest baseball player on Earth. In his first 31 games this season, Hamilton batted .402 and hit 18 home runs.
Since then ... Well, not so much. Even now, Hamilton does lead the American League in both home runs (28) and RBI (78). But since the 12th of May, Hamilton's got a 236/316/452 line, which isn't so impressive at all.
And his manager has noticed. Via Tim Cowlishaw, here's Ron Washington on Hamilton's struggles:
They're getting Josh out because he's not showing any patience. He's not making any adjustments.
Josh is a free swinger. That's an adjustment he has to make. I've seen him make it. But it seems like it bores him.
Remember that Ron Washington is considered a players' manager. Remember too that Josh Hamilton is eligible for free agency after this season. And wonder if Hamilton's going to be playing somewhere else in 2013.
