Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia caught a foul tip in the wrong place, and now a hand fracture is going to sideline him for a month and a half.
I don't know how many members of the Blue Jays have suffered significant injuries this season, but that's only because my computer ran out of memory trying to download the list. The latest Blue Jay to go down is catcher J.P. Arencibia. A foul tip caught Arencibia in the hand, which happens reasonably often, but it caught Arencibia in the wrong place and rigorous examination revealed a fracture.
It's going to be something of a long time before J.P. Arencibia plays again.

On the one hand, Arencibia has just a 95 OPS+. On the other hand, he's been riding a hot streak, and his backup is Jeff Mathis. Jeff Mathis will now serve as the Blue Jays' regular, barring a surprise. Mathis, of course, is a defensive specialist whose bat is a lot worse than his small-sample 2012 numbers indicate.
Maybe the Blue Jays are used to this sort of news by now.
